Just to give you a recap, last week’s blog, Mental Health in the Latinx Community, solely focused on self-care hacks & engaged the audience with Gordita’s Way first ever giveaway prize! “A huge part of my self-care is “sleep hygiene.” Sleep hygiene consists of different practices and habits that are necessary to have good quality of sleep–this can include: starting to dim the lights at a certain time to trigger melatonin production in your brain and remind your brain that it’s almost bedtime, washing your face, brushing your teeth, putting on a face mask, spraying your pillow with a scented mist, avoiding electronics 2 hours before bed to signal your brain again that it’s time to start relaxing, and even taking a dropper of melatonin to help aid that! I use an app called insight timer for when I turn the lights off that uses guided meditation or music meditation to help you drift off into sleep.”

“My self-care would be long walks. I loved long walks to friends, beach, work and home. Thank you for reminding me how I miss those long walks and how it cleared my mind. Yes, I talked to myself and planned my goals within myself. It was the greatest thing. It has been a while that I’ve done these long walks, however, it’s never too late to continue.

I loved your blog about mental health. I believe we need to seek a little help when we can’t figure things out. I recently advised my mom to talk to a therapist. Of course, being an older Latina mom she responded, “Esa cosas son para los locas y yo no estoy loca!!” Immediately I rolled my eyes, however, I explained the benefits of a mental [health] therapist and told her I went out to speak with a professional. I told her, “Sometimes you need [to] speak to a person who has [a] different perspective or someone to talk to with no judgment.” She tried it and enjoyed it. We talked about her sessions and she tells [me] about things I never knew and how it has affected her during her lifetime. I’m glad I was able to convince her to take these sessions and maintaining.”
